Joe “Bubba” Brown is a 6’4” 323 pound offensive lineman who is reportedly transferring from Miami to play for the BYU football team (Class of 2014).

Brown redshirted for Miami in 2014, but made his first start as a Redshirt Freshman vs. Virginia Tech last October. He played in seven games in 2015, starting three. He announced he would be transferring to be closer to home on January 16th.
Brown is from Paramount, California, and he played nose guard, defensive end, and defensive tackle for Paramount High School. As a sophomore he had 20 tackles, one tackle for loss, one pass defended, one quarterback hurry, and one sack. As a junior he had 53 tackles, eight tackles for loss, six quarterback hurries, and seven sacks. As a senior he had 82 tackles (61 solo), 17 quarterback hurries, nine tackles for loss, five passes defended, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and six sacks. He was named the San Gabriel Valley Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year, and was a second-team selection on the Press-Telegram’s all-area team.
Brown was unrated by Rivals, Scout, and ESPN, most likely because of his poor HS academics. However, he was still offered scholarships to Miami and UTEP after bring up his SAT scores. He is the fifth of eight children and the first in his family to attend University. His journey from the ghetto to D1 football player is chronicled in a Miami Herald article. He will sit out 2016 per NCAA transfer rules and then will have two years to play two.
