Cougar Kickoff Countdown: 14 Days

Only two weeks left until BYU kicks off against UConn in East Hartford, Connecticut!

Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

No other quarterback in BYU history has won more accolades than #14 Ty Detmer. During his four years in Provo, the Cougars went 37-13-2. By the time he finished his career as a Cougar he had set 59 NCAA records, including 15,031 career passing yards, and was tied for three other records. In 1990, Detmer won the Heisman Trophy, the Davey O'Brien Award, the Maxwell Award, the Sammy Baugh Trophy, and was named both a consensus All-America player and UPI Player of the Year. He also passed for  5,188 yards in 1990; a 5,000-yard passing season has not been duplicated at BYU since. 1991 was a good year as well. Detmer passed for 4,031 yards, won the Davey O'Brien Award, and was a consensus All-America player again.
