Cougar Kickoff Countdown: 9 Days

Despite being recruited by nine PAC-10 schools, #9 Austin Collie chose to follow in the footsteps of his father Scott, and brother Zac, to play wide receiver for BYU. Collie got his career off to a great start, during a bad season, when he caught a touchdown pass in a 20-17 victory over Notre Dame in the 2004 season opener. He chose to serve a mission the following year and spent two-years in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

His first season back was in 2007, but he has a little heavier and slower than his freshman season. He really announced he was back when made a dynamite catch that was thrown over his outside shoulder while he was running a slant-and-go route, spinning around to make the play.

Collie was a player who showed a lot of promise and continued to deliver. As a junior he was a consensus All-America receiver and led the nation with 1,538 receiving yards, the most by any BYU receiver, and 118.3 receiving yards per game. He also tied an NCAA record of 11 consecutive 100 yard receiving games.

Collie's junior season was his final one as a Cougar. He set program records with 3,255 yards receiving and 30 touchdown. Collie accomplished more in three seasons at BYU than most receivers have in four. He was selected in the fourth round of the NFL draft by the Indianapolis Colts. As a rookie he had more touchdown receptions than any other rookies, including a Super Bowl XLIV touchdown reception, and tied for total receptions of rookies.
