BYU Football Schedule: Notre Dame series in jeopardy

The Cougars remaining four games with the Irish may not happen.

Today, during a roundtable with local reporters, BYU AD Tom Holmoe expressed concerns that BYU Football's series with Notre Dame may not happen.

BYU signed a six-game agreement with the Irish back in 2010, which was announced the day BYU originally went Independent. The agreement included four games in South Bend and two in Provo. The two teams already played the first two games in South Bend, but the Irish have yet to visit LaVell Edwards Stadium.

While Holmoe only expressed concern that the series may not be completed, it should not surprise anyone if the series is eventually cancelled. Since the Irish joined the ACC in all non-football sports and agreed to schedule at least five ACC teams every year, nearly every series Notre Dame has with non-ACC opponents have been at risk. The Irish already cancelled a three-game series with rival Michigan. If the Irish were willing to part with their rivalry with the Wolverines, they certainly won't have any problems dropping a few games with the Cougars.

Expect BYU to be as patient as they can with Notre Dame on this. Getting high-profile opponents to LaVell Edwards Stadium has been one of the biggest challenges for the Cougars since becoming an independent, so if there is anyway Holmoe can convince the Irish to complete at least one of the trips to Provo it would be a big win for the BYU AD.

What do you think? Will any more games be played in this series? If not, which teams would you like to see in place of Notre Dame?
