BYU received some massive news Thursday as Richie Saunders announced he will return to BYU for his junior season. Richie had taken an official visit to Kentucky, but announced his return to BYU after mulling over the decision.

One source close to Richie told me that his desire to remain at BYU, relationship with Fouss, and similar NIL offers from BYU or Kentucky all factored in his decision to return

The 6-foot-5 sophomore has been a fan favorite in two seasons at BYU. Saunders is one of the best “glue guys” in the country with his relentless motor. Saunders took a jump in his second season, averaging 9.6 points and 4.1 rebounds on 52% shooting from the floor and 36% from three. His 64% two-point percentage was 79th nationally.

Retaining Saunders is a massive get for new coach Kevin Young. Saunders has a path to start next season at BYU and be one of the team leaders and best players. I anticipate him to compete for All Big 12 honors. Saunders was rated as a 4-star transfer by 247 Sports.

Dallin Hall recently started a visit to Creighton, so he will be the next huge focus for Kevin Young. Despite the visit, I like BYU’s chances to get Dallin Hall back (although not a sure thing).
