Blog: A quick look at the five collegiate players who have had four triple doubles in a single season

When Kyle Collinsworth recorded his fourth triple double of the season last night the ESPN commentators spoke repeatedly about the rarity of the feat. Today dozens of newspaper and online articles have mentioned KC’s amazing achievement and most list the four other players who have completed this remarkable feat. But no one has talked about what became of those other players so we will do that here.

Blog: The Miami Beach brawl: Who is to blame?

The inaugural Miami Beach bowl was certainly a memorable football game. It went down to the wire and then some, with Memphis pulling out a spectacular double overtime win. But it won’t be remembered for the play on the field. College football fans will be joined with countless others in remembering the 2014 bowl game for what happened after the game: The Miami Beach brawl. If you haven’t seen the footage yet (or even if you have), here is a compilation video of all the recorded footage.

Blog: Does a win or a loss today even affect Bronco Mendenhall s post-season legacy?

Bronco Mendenhall is the most consistent bowl in college football today. He has been head coach for ten seasons and has gone to ten bowl games. Add to that a 6-3 bowl record (.667 win %), and at least on paper he appears to be a post-game superstar. But is he? To determine his post season greatness we have to determine how he stacks up against other BYU head coaches in the post-season, and how he stacks up against other current D1 head coaches.

Blog: By the Numbers: What if Demarcus Harrison had Stayed at BYU?

Former Cougar Demarcus Harrison is currently a senior starting shooting guard for the Clemson Tigers. He is having his most productive season as a collegiate basketball player averaging 11.8 points and 3.7 rebounds in 31.2 minutes per game. No doubt BYU could benefit from his leadership and production… right? Fortunately, BYU Insider just ran the numbers for offensive and defensive production for the first third of the season, so positioning Harrison on the current Cougar roster is easy-peasy.

Blog: Who is the BYU basketball BMOC right now?

One third of the season is already over. The pre-season is interesting for BYU because Rose likes to use his bench extensively in the cupcake games but goes with who he thinks will be in the regular season rotation in the more competitive ones (e.g. SDSU, Pitt, Utah). BYU is staying true to form this season winning the games they should win and losing the ones that are close. It is a good sign that BYU has not dropped any gimmies, and a bad sign that they have not had even one signature win thus far. And with 15 players battling for playing time there are still a lot of question marks for this team this season. To understand how strong this team really is BYU insider has provided some statistical analysis for each of the individual players.

Blog: In Defense of Hiring a Young Defensive Coordinator

There is a hot seat in Provo, and BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall is sharing it with his young and inexperienced Defensive Coordinator Nick Howell. There was little outrage at the DC promotion given to Howell this season–he’s been working with the defense since 2007 and most felt he was doing a good job and deserved the promotion. However, as he has guided the defense to a very underwhelming 2014 campaign there are certainly now fan rumblings calling for his dismissal. These voices of dissent have pointed out that Howell is very young (he’s now 35), had no prior D1 coaching experience, didn’t even have a winning record as a High School head coach at Ben Lomond, and didn’t play a single down of collegiate or professional football. I say those are all dumb arguments.
