I think you're over-simplifying this one Lifi
many people - me included - are critical of the HC BECAUSE they love BYU and they believe - with good cause - that the HC is a relic of the 1960s (not the 1860s or the 1830s, mind you but the 1960s) which is grounded in an administrative response to a political context which no longer exists, and which occasionally is in conflict with the application of Gospel principles.

The HC is full of non-doctrinal requirements which are relics of President Wilkinson's particular response to the radicalism and unrest of the 1960s, NOT in any doctrine or gospel principle.

The fact that certain former HC requirements have been quietly changed or dispensed with - i.e. the former requirement that people had to wear socks - is evidence that it was never a "revealed" set of rules, it was just a set of rules.

The HC doesn't need to be dispensed with - it just should be reformed.
