I had baby number 4 in a birth center, with a midwife and loved it.
My previous three children were born in a hospital, with epidurals. By far the birth center experience was my favorite, but I loved all of my births and never had a bad experience with the hospital. My suggestion, take your question to the lord. No one on Cougar Board can give you the feeling of peace you need to feel confident with a decision like that. If you have a confirmation from the spirit that your choice is a good one, then go for it. You definitely need to be sure of your decision because you will be questioned by every person you tell you are doing a home birth. You will also hear lots of bad advice and horror stories.

On a side note, you can find statistics, studies etc. to prove better outcomes for homebirth or hospital births and everyone has a story to share. For example, I just met a women this week that lost both of her legs below the knees due to a staph infection she contracted at the hospital after birth. You can also find many birth stories online from mothers who have had great success with homebirth and also mothers who know that if they were not at a hospital they would have lost their life or the life of their baby.

Good luck in making this very important decision. Pray, fast and go to the temple to find the answers you need. For me and my husband we knew it was right the day we went to meet the midwife, and we had such a calm and reassuring feeling that our decision was good.
