I read the article also and I'm not sure what to make of it. I thought it was stating that Gary Patterson doesn't care for BYU. I'm not sure why because I think Patterson is a great coach. I haven't liked losing to TCU in football in the recent past. However, I don't have any bad feelings against them. So I'm not sure why you think fans don't like TCU because it would just be sour grapes that fans get whenever another team beats them. The more we get beat, the less we like it.
Now, as to the other jab the Deseret News author took at TCU. He was stating that BYU has a lot of things that make it stand firm about no Sunday play. I'm not sure how TCU fans, or Patterson feel about that. BYU has their own HDTV Broadcasting station and a huge van that can go on location to broadcast things. Because BYU has these things they don't have to plead with national broadcasters about showing their games. They retain the third-tier broadcasting rights if any of the three big sportscasting groups associated with the Big 12 fail to show a game. BYU can broadcast their own game if the others don't. Then the author stated "in effect" that TCU would have to plead for them to broadcast their games because they don't have their own broadcasting station. That is what he meant when he said" "That's TCU's job."
The article was more about why the other teams or coaches or ADs may not want BYU in the Big 12 and to quit blaming Tom Holmoe for not getting in the Big 12. Tom Holmoe defended himself by stating that the Big 12 has not made any offers. Hence, you can't accept something that is not offered. He was stating that BYU fans will have to get over it. If that helps explain the article, good. I'm not sure about anything else the author wrote regarding why some individuals in power in the Big 12 may not want BYU. The author was not naming names. So I don't know who he meant. But I would like to know where to put the blame!
