if the standard for value only makes sense to film snobs...is it really a standard? Should I think that someone's art is fantastic because a select few tell me I'm supposed to think its great? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right? I would have no problem with the claim that some no name creates better art than Picaso, because Picaso's stuff is junk to me. I wouldn't pay $5 for a Picaso (actually, I might just because I know I could sell it for more...but I wouldn't be motivated to hang it up anywhere).
Thus the debate about objectively rating subjective material doesn't make any sense at all. Christopher Nolan's work has gotten critical acclaim by a variety of audiences...therefore I think its safe to say that most people think he's great regardless of what a few "film snobs" might think, just like my own opinion on Picaso doesn't detract from his greatness in the eyes of others.
