I think the current mode should be the default

But it would be nice to be able to have a few sorting options - most recent thread, most recent that was commented on, most liked today, etc - it would allow people to view the board like normal and wouldn't mess with the dynamics of the board, but would also make it a lot easier to find interesting posts that you missed earlier in the day or week and continue conversations on those.
