And just because you CAN do it in python doesn't mean you should
It's almost certainly more expensive, not easier to maintain unless you know the programming language, not as easy to change as a macro for someone without a coding background, and would probably require some sort of support agreement from whoever created it.
If it's a huge, complex, critical piece then you're probably right. Otherwise, excel is probably the better choice.
