1967, Wyoming at Utah. Union Pacific ran a special passenger train from Cheyenne to Salt Lake City, picking fans up all the way across Wyoming. My memory is that the Cowboy fan was characterized by a ten-gallon hat, a Mackinaw coat, and a fifth of whiskey in his right hand. Wyoming was undefeated and had a great team (Jim Kiick). At half-time, the Utah pep group had a large banner, (about 15 yards long) that the Utah fans were going crazy about. The group carrying the banner ran around the track over to the Wyoming side where the Cowboy fans saw it for the first time. The sign read "Go Utah, castrate the Cowboys". The whole stand emptied, the kids carrying the banner departed, and the Cowboy fans returned to their seats after the banner had been reduced to postage stamp sized waste paper. Lots of smiles under ten gallon hats!
