More thoughts on why I think belonging to a conference, even Mountain West, is
better than independence. I hear the argument that the teams in the Mountain West are no good and that BYU as an independent can play better teams. I really don't understand thoughts that are against Mountain West teams. Especially now. You have Boise State, Fresno, Utah State, Air Force (has been a formidable rival) and others. CSU has given good games as has New Mexico and San Diego. They have better name recognition than UConn, Central Florida, Middle Tennessee, Savannah State and others coming up on schedule for next few years.

Of course we have a couple of good named teams next year, with Texas and well I don't see anyone else for next year, other than maybe Houston. However, we are playing Utah State, Boise, UNLV and Nevada, which we would have in the Mountain West. The following year, other than the MWC teams, there are Nebraska, Michigan, Cincinnati, which we could have schedule as out of conference anyway, if we were in the MWC.

I don't see any others on the schedule that we couldn't have had coming up, even if we were in the MWC. We aren't going to get in the PAC12 or the Big 12. The MWC is a good mid level conference fit, where I believe we belong, and and where we could build up some good rivalries in Boise State, Utah State, and a Fresno.

It seems we are scheduling two or three big named teams and then mid level teams or lower. We could be playing for a conference title and do that. The thinking apparently is all the great money from ESPN. If thats the case. Ok. Sad, but the money is ruining the fun of the game and the fun of college sports.
