Are recruiters trained to be condescending jack-yewts?
Spoke with one this morning, and was reminded why I generally don't like speaking to these guys - they try to sell you on a lesser paying job by trying to tell you that you're overpaid in your current position, among many other things to make you think the job they speaking to you about actually is a good gig. The gig this guy is talking to me about actually is a pretty good job, but would be a step back for me in title and compensation. I'm not big on titles and really don't concern myself with have a fancy-schmancy title, but a title is important when it comes to compensation and taking a position at a lower title usually results in lesser compensation, which is what this one would do.

I made it clear that I'm happy where I'm at and am not actively looking for a new job, but am always willing to listen to new opportunities..such a position can be translated as saying, "I'm fine where I'm at, but am willing to move if you offer me a lot of money to make a move". This job is at a lower title, and has a lower salary, but this guy asks me if I'd be willing to make a move at the same salary (uh, yewt no!), asks me if I'd be willing to pass on my bonus if an offer were extending (abso-freaking-lutely not!!), and then acted completely surprised when I told him it's ridiculous to even ask if I'd be willing to forfeit a bonus to move or make a lateral move salary-wise considering I'm not actively looking...I need a reason to consider a move, and those two things do little to convince me this is a great opportunity. So, what does this clown do, proceed to tell me I'm probably overpaid and that this other company is much more reliable than my current employer, and if things don't work out at my current employer, I'd be more than willing to take the job he's speaking to me about.

Maybe I'm overpaid, maybe I'm not, but as long as my company is willing to pay me that amount, then I'm willing to stay here and let them overpay me. I owe them that much, lol.
