There are a lot of houses in Las Vegas worth more than $400K
what I'm saying is you could afford a house worth $400K on a California salary and put your family in a nice part of Las Vegas in a plus plus house. The downside is that you'll have to find a place to live by yourself in California and then fly back to Las Vegas on weekends. I'd almost rather do that than commute 90 minutes each way and see your family only a few minutes per day. I'm really against commuting at almost all costs.
