The Board is looking at creating a separate tier for the G5. Like the P5, the G5 would be able to govern themselves without having to consult and get approval from the remaining 22 conferences that make up D1. This is completely new. I don't recall seeing any mention of this in any of the documents. This may have come about as the result of today's meeting. At first look, it makes sense. The G5 have little in common with the rest of D1, who are either FCS or non-football conferences. I don't know if there will be a proposal to create the new autonomous group this year but I'm certain the G5 would be in favor of being able to govern themselves.
Also approved today was a change in the hardship waiver rule. If an athlete is granted a transfer under the hardship clause, he/she will no longer be immediately available to play but will be granted another year of eligibility and will have to sit out one year.
