I wrote this up for a friend who is out of the loop and wanted my thoughts:
Here’s my thoughts: Remember that there usually seems to be one Faux Pas and one how-the-heck? each year.
Utah -General consensus is that they will be struggling to get Bowl eligible. A 5-7 record probably an optimistic estimate but very doable. With luck maybe 6-6. But in my opinion 4-8 is more likely.
Utes Schedule: My predictions
Thu, Aug 28 Idaho State Win
Sat, Sept 6 Fresno State Win / Possible loss
Sat, Sept 20 @ Michigan Loss
Sat, Sept 27 Washington St Win / Possible loss
Sat, Oct 4 @ UCLA Loss
Thu, Oct 16 @ Oregon St. Loss / Possible win
Sat, Oct 25 USC Loss
Sat, Nov 1 @ Arizona St. Loss
Sat, Nov 8 Oregon Loss
Sat, Nov 15 @ Stanford Loss
Sat, Nov 22 Arizona Loss / Possible win
Sat, Nov 29 @ Colorado Win / Possible loss
Honestly Utah’s schedule is a meat grinder especially for a Mid-Major masquerading as a P5 team.
BYU would be slightly disappointing if they don’t at least win 10 games. 9 wins is a must, 10 is optimistic but very very doable, 11 also doable. 12 would require a good deal of luck but maaaaaaybe doable.
BYU Schedule: My Predictions
Fri, Aug 29 @ UConn Win
Sat, Sept 6 @ Texas Loss / Small chance of a win.
Thu, Sept 11 Houston Win / Possible Loss
Thu, Sept 20 Virginia Win
Fri, Oct 3 USU Win
Thu, Oct 9 @ Central Fla. Win / Possible Loss
Sat, Oct 18 Nevada Win
Fri, Oct 24 @ BSU Win / Possible Loss
Sat, Nov 1 @ Middle Tenn. Win

Win Sat, Nov 29 @ Cal Win / Possible Loss
Taysom Hill is listed on the Heisman Watch List. He is getting a lot of pub. He was recently invited to the (Peyton) Manning camp which is a camp for the top 40 College QB’s. It is a pure passing camp and Taysom finished in the final 8. This bodes well for BYU. If he has gotten that good with his accuracy he is going to be a beast! Jamal Williams is on the Doak Walker watch list. Trivia: If I remember correctly, there are only like 5 teams that have won both awards and BYU is one of them. I like BYU’s Schedule because every game is winnable but there are some solid teams on the list. UCF won a BCS game last year, BSU has recognition, UCONN, Virginia & Cal have BCS status and Texas is… well… Texas.
