Question about melanoma/mole removal

Why in the world do dermatologists do the cutting and stitching? (that inevitably leave scars). Why not have the plastic surgeon do it, which would clearly leave less likelihood of serious scarring?

Because you have to make sure you have clear margins around what is cut out
