In response to the post about what type of laptop to get for a college student, let me first state that I haven't been a college student for awhile now . With that said, I do software development, some graphic design, spreadsheets, email, some games, etc and have found that I need no other computing device besides my Surface and my phone. The build quality is very solid, I can plug in pretty much any external device you can think of, and I can run any App I've ever found to be important along with any Windows App(lication) that I need.
For those of you who might be thinking about a Surface for your work environment...I plug in 2 24" monitors along with a full-size keyboard and mouse (and anything else I need). The Surface sits on my left side as a 3rd screen close to the keyboard where I can easily take advantage of the touch screen when desired. At night it transforms in to my casual web-browsing, game-playing, email-corresponding, occasionally-really-productive tablet. All of my customizations, favorites, documents, etc are always right where I left them--no partially-successful syncing required.
Another bonus if you are in class or in a meeting (including church meetings) taking notes: the stylus and OneNote. Plus, my little girls love the coloring book apps with the stylus during sacrament meeting .
Oh, and did I mention it can do Starcraft 2?
All other tablets are really just toys next to a Windows-powered tablet (which is fine if a toy is what you want), and laptops have their limitations in comparison.
