Harvey
At this point, I just feel horribly sorry for Harvey Langi. Sounds like a great young man from a wonderful family. He served a mission and as almost always occurs to missionaries, he changed. Things that once were not serious and terribly important to him, became serious and very important. He himself set in motion a chain of events. He asked his mission president to make several calls for him to notify people that when he returned, he would be transferring from Utah to BYU. One of those people, Vai Sikahema, apparently followed up by asking if he could do a newspaper article on this and was apparently given the go ahead. To do these things, Harvey's mind must have been made up. He had obviously thought about this. He knew about the environment at Utah. He also knew, though a bit less, about the environment at BYU. What he possibly did not fully realize was the amount and kind of feedback he would receive from Utah fans, Utah friends, Utah coaches and Utah teammates. Do they fear losing a difference-maker to a hated rival or do they merely fear losing a perceived battle with a hated rival? When Harvey left for his mission, the Utah fan base had made pretty negative remarks about Harvey and his abilities. Now they act like he alone will be the difference in their program, even though he is to move to the defensive side of the ball. At this point, Harvey probably feels like he can't go back to Utah (he may be correct) and maybe that he can't attend BYU either. Harvey, just do your thing. Whatever you were feeling back in Florida on your mission was important for your future.
