not to knock Langi or anything because I think he'll be a great contributor, but USC fills their two deep with 4-5 star guys. That's about 50 players. Aren't there like 80 scholarships allowed (although they have been down a few lately). Since they are USC they can typically load up the other 30 spots with 3-4 star running backs and safeties that they plan to use solely for special teams and on offense/defense in case of emergencies.
It is hard for us BYU fans to comprehend because we don't have that luxury, but that is what the big boys actually do. For example we saw what Kaveinga and Faungupo can do when they were at BYU, but they were not close to starting for USC. They were there to bolster the special teams units and get a few reps at their actual positions to gain experience in case they were needed.
