Seeing some of the contacts these days, I'm curious as to how much they actually pocket (you know, to "feed their kids"). For example, let's use a nice round number: $10,000,000/season.
How much goes to the agent? Is there a set percentage?
Does any money go to other people? Handlers? Security?
(Let's assume income taxes aren't a factor, which it isn't in some states)
There are some crazy figures being bandied about in the NBA right now. Think about it: TEN MILLION dollars or more, in many cases. And that doesn't even factor in endorsement monies, other performance bonuses (All-Star games, All-NBA teams, playoffs, etc.), or revenue sharing from the league (I'm not exactly sure how that works, but that's what I think it is). And isn't health insurance covered by the league? Plus, they don't pay anything out of pocket for food, travel, or other perks throughout the season. Amazing.
(Feel free to correct me if I am wrong on any of these points.)
