I think Boston is trying to get younger. Word was that they were wanting minor
league prospects to both pitchers, but the teams wouldn't give up what Boston wanted. Boston ended up with some average every day players as a result instead of the hot minor league prospects.

I don't know how I feel about the Cards giving up Craig for a 35 year old pitcher. Reports from within the Cards organization from a few years ago said Craig was the best pure hitter on the team (this was when the Cards still had Pujols). Craig has been continuously injured though, and is in a slump this year, so I guess the Cards have come off of him a little bit. He could blow up and hit 40 HRs in Boston though
