and your story reminds me of one of the biggest idiots in the history of the NBA, Stephon Marbury. Once when he was a free agent he rejected a huge deal from his current team (minnesota) to take much less money to go play for a much worse team. His explanation was that even though it was less money from his new team, it was enough to make him the team's highest paid player, where if he took the deal from Minnesota he'd only be the second highest paid player behind Kevin Garnett. So he gave up a boatload of money as well as the chance to be on a good team so he could be the highest paid guy on a crappy team.
