Nixon weighs 230 lbs
and is a 4 with some supposed ability to stretch defenses because he is a good shooter. Compare that with Ryan Andrus who is on scholarship because this time last summer Rose was facing a big man situation for this year that consisted of Worthington, Neilson, Austin and Josh Sharp. He needed bodies. In the 12 months since Rose promised Andrus a scholarship and requested he plan to play a year before his mission Aytes came aknocking and Corbin Kaufusi spiked his morning protein shakes with insta-grow. Further, I think Neilson showed Rose a bit more after he arrived in the winter than Rose was expecting. Point is that now BYU looks like it could get more mileage out of a kid who can play the 4 and potentially shoot the 3 than than they can get from a 5 that needs to put on 25 lbs before he could reasonably defend the position and whose offensive skills are not there either.

That is not to say I think Nixon will contribute much just that I think he is more offensively polished and more physically ready. I think that Kaufusi, Aytes and Austin will get the lions share of minutes at the 4 and 5 with Worthington and Neilson seeing spot duty depending on matchups and foul situations. It will not surprise me if during conference play there are many games where the threesome of Austin, Aytes and Kaufusi take 75 or more of the 80 available minutes at those two positions.
