I have a newbie question - how many at-large spots for New Year's Bowls?
How has the CFP changed bowl tie-ins for the non-playoff major bowls? Previously, there was often only one spot where a non-automatic qualifying team could be put in. That varied, with some flexibility and the various concessions for allowing a non-automitic-qualifying team to qualify by being ranked above a conference champion from an AQ team . . . or something.

What is the situation now? Are there "at large" spots where a bowl commitee can pick what ever team they want, regardless of conference affiliation?

Help thou my ignorance.
