The only reason I don't cut cable and go immediately to OTA television right now is that the only way to watch most BYU sports is to have and pay for ESPN. That won't change, but that's also a lot of money to pay for BYU away games. I'm the far end of the Bell curve, but I can imagine a lot of people looking at that equation coming to a different conclusion. And when millions of subscribers start cutting the cord, ESPN's revenues are going to nosedive, unless they find a new way to get people to pay for their content a la carte.
In just a few years, our ESPN contract will be up for renegotiation, and if ESPN is not doing well, that doesn't bode well for what they might offer us as we negotiate the second round of our contract.
I guess I don't know what WILL happen, but what MIGHT happen makes me a tad nervous.
