Think about the state of the program when Bronco was hired... coming off multiple rape allegations. Bronco had to be VERY careful about who he recruited. He has spent the last decade proving to the administration that he will handle Honor Code violations seriously and appropriately. They won't be swept under the rug. Now that he has shown that, he has a little more leeway to take some chances on some guys.
That said, they still have to vet these guys. They can take chances, but they have to be well-researched chances. And doing the proper research takes a lot of time. With the new recruiting guidelines (being able to hire a full time recruiting coordinator), they now have more time to be able to widen the net. Some say it was Bronco's paradigm that he didn't go after higher risk kids, but a large part of it was they literally didn't have the time to search out and look into the backgrounds of all these kids. Now they have more time, and you're seeing the results of that time.
