I have tried many different kinds of running shoes and I always end up with some kind of minor injury that keeps me out of running for a while, but since I've had these I have been injury-free for several months. I'm not a serious runner by any means, but I have gotten to enjoy it as something that keeps me healthy and a good way to challenge myself.
I have flat feet and pronate quite a bit, so in the past I would go the running store, have them video my feet on a treadmill with and without shoes, try on a bunch of different kinds to see which ones stabilized the pronation, and then I would end up with some kind of stability shoe. The last pair I had were Brooks Adrenaline, and I liked the feel of those a lot, but I had all sort of injuries. I read an article about a study the army did with stability, neutral, and minimalist shoes which basically concluded that stability shoes don't help prevent injuries and there wasn't any evidence that pronating is even a bad thing. With this in mind I started doing some research on which shoes offered the most cushioning. I looked seriously at the Hoka One Ones but eventually settled on the energy boost.
The energy boost line uses the same type of material they put in BMW dashboards - a lot squishier than standard EVA foam but with a lot more bounceback. The material provides more cushioning and also seems to be lasting longer than EVA foam shoes.
I know this sounds like an infomercial, but if there are those of you out there that struggle with running injuries you might want to give these shoes a try. I love them more than kugr loves hiding in bushes.
