What I think will happen with BYU and P5.
The bottom line is BYU needs to become a bit more valuable. Right now we sit about equal to the average value of each P5 conference team, meaning we don't increase the value of the conference, but we don't devalue it either. I'm basing that off of the many articles we've all read over the past 3 years. Unfortunately, we are not valuable enough for an invite anytime soon.

I think we stay in no man's land as indy for the next 5 years and hopefully kick some butt and increase our second tier fan base (random people who watch us because no other games are being played at the time, this is critical imo...), which slowly increases our viewership and value. Let's hope we have another 1996 season to stir up controversy, stay in the media and keep us somewhat relevant. Not to mention becoming the clear #1 choice for any expanding conference. Beating Texas again this year would be a monumental start to this.

In the next 5 years I think we'll see some more change, but not necessarily expansion. Texas or other big schools could explore independence or at least their own TV contracts. This could open an opportunity for an invite or validate our independence. ESPN could push for us to get inclusion in better bowls. We could get more scheduling agreements like we have with the P12... Whatever happens the right move is to not react right now, but wait to see what shakes over the next 5 years.

If there is one organization that understands how to get a global following it's us (by that I mean the LDS organization), I'm happy #50in50 has been a big success, I'm happy to see everyone get flags with their tickets, and I'm excited to see what else BYU comes up with to strengthen the fan base and become an offer good enough for a conference to take a chance at.
