The cost was similar to smart phone but we didn't want to do smart phones till at least 14 so it was worth it. Get whatever free non smart phone they have, back when we did it there were only a couple, or just buy a used flip phone capatable with your carrier and see if that is possible. Or just do a straight talk walmart prepaid phone for them?
