She was part of the decision making process to add Utah and Colorado. She told me that BYU was actually their first choice and it made much more sense financially to add the Cougars than anyone else. Most of the AD's looked forward to the competition BYU would provide as part of a conference schedule.
Most people don't know this but P12 schools primarily carry Pepsi products on campus. Pepsi are big time sponsors and carry a lot of weight with P12 athletics. Well, once Pepsi got wind of the deal they single-handedly put a stop to it. Apparently Pepsi is sore at BYU for running it out of the caffeine free soda business. Remember Pepsi-Free? Can't really find it any more. Ya see, back in the day, BYU went with caffeine free coke products and that gave coke an upper leg on the Caffeine Free market. Once they cornered Provo, they knew they had the market. Pepsi just couldn't compete and had to concede the entire national caffeine free market to Coke. So, they are still pretty sore about it and this was their revenge against BYU.
Oh, my source was really hot in college. We dated for a while. I called it off. We're still friends.
