The intent of GFGH is to have the QB make his reads post-snap, not pre-snap
It allows the offense to go faster and ostensibly doesn't allow the defense to disguise anything.

The downside is the inverse of Mack Brown's statement: if the defense is lined up correctly, then it's hard to get yards. This is really only the case if you have matchup disadvantages or don't make the right reads, but we saw a lot of that last year.
