It takes a lot of spin to think that a player could be

moving down the field, have the ball across the plane, then still have enough time to bring his arm back, drop the ball, and get it to where it is BEFORE the player crosses the line.

Sure, it doesn't matter for the final outcome at all. It is kind of funny though.
