In 1927, a student enrolled a fictitious George P Burdell at school there as a joke. He gave him the same class load that he had, and he doubled all of his homework and tests turned them in for both himself and for this fictitious student. He kept it up through 1930 when George P Burdell graduated with a Bachelors degree, and later a Masters degree. Since then George P Burdell has been awarded every single degree offered at Ga Tech, including one semester when he enrolled in 3000 credit hours (not sure who is paying his tuition). He has married, has a son, served on the board of directors for Mad Magazine, served in the military, lettered on the basketball team, was a delegate at the Democratic National Convention, and was a candidate for Time Man of the Year in 2001. He is paged at most football games and shows up on lists and sign-in sheets all over campus.
