What triggered it was a lot of discussion about Kaufusi
"he didn't get much QB pressure last year"
"he's not quick enough and will get burned in pass coverage"
Also, several complaints about the DL and how little they penetrate.

The DL has responsibility first for filling the gaps and keeping the OL off the ILBs. They're supposed to plug and read while trying to stand up the OL. If they're penetrating more than a step off the snap, unless there's a stunt on, they're missing half of their assignment.

The OLB have responsibilities for containment at the edges and to get pressure on the QB. The fact that Bronson didn't have a huge statistical year has little to no bearing on how effective he'll be at replacing KVN, because his job as a DE last year is completely different than what an OLB, especially the weak side OLB is asked to do.

The only pass protection Kaufusi has is flats on zone coverage or the 3rd man out in man coverages. There will rarely be a 3rd man out on the weak side, so he'll rarely have to run with a receiver (typically a RB) in man coverage. In a zone, his height is a huge advantage because the QB has to throw over him to hit anyone in the flat.

In short, Bronson should be fine, and nothing you saw from him last year has much bearing on how he'll play this year at OLB.
