Diamond Formation
What's up with the "Diamond" formation the Cougs were using last night? Least favorable formation of all the offensive sets last night. IIRC, they used it three times in a row and they were 3 and out. That formation and the number of penalties were my biggest frustrations from the game. Speaking of penalties, the players should have been on each other too. Fui was pulled over his second flag (good for the coaches here). Coaches are to blame too for the number penalties too. I know they weren't playing, but are still responsible for the players actions. Defensively, when the Cougars didn't apply pressure, i.e. blitzing, the Huskies made good plays. When their QB was hurried (blitzing) it caused all sorts of problems for the Huskies. So why wasn't more blitzing called by the DC? Was he gun shy to a certain extent because this was his first time calling the defensive plays? Just food for thought.

Good things I saw... QB made great decisions ALL night. No interceptions, just two bad passes overall. Defense was solid (not great)... first game of the season. IMO, the defense will make great strides in their improvement in preparing for Texas.

Things that HAVE improve for this to be a "Special Season"... Bigger holes for the RBs to run through. Better running and decisions by the RBs. At times they didn't follow their blocker correctly or made a cut and run it up field. The kicking game. If there isn't a 300% improvement by next week and throughout the season, this by itself will cost the Cougars 2-3 games easily.

One last note... IMO (again), BYU didn't show Texas very much. I believe the Cougs will have some surprises for the Longhorns. No gimmicks or trick plays, just certain formations (offensively and defensively).
