Play clock resets within a few seconds of the whistle. Since it usually takes

them close to 10 seconds to set the ball and then wind the game clock, that only gives them about 30 seconds of game clock to burn after a 1st down. It's not a huge difference, but it would have been just enough for OU to get one more chance with the ball.
