Not the smart ones
BYU has been extremely lucky/blessed to have such two stellar coaches as Lavell and Bronco in football. Think about how many programs never have even one coach with a really good record. We just played one such program

That said, to have such a good record while operating under all the restraints BYU presents is truly incredible. I wouldn't have things at BYU any other way but it does mean there are good athletes that won't even give us a first glance. I'm very happy to have Bronco at the helm. He's a known quantity and he's done very well for BYU relative to many others who might have had the job.

I believe that if the guy at the U had gotten the Y job he would already be gone... but he would have left in his wake a five-alarm public relations disaster for the Church and University to deal with. With BYU being a Church institution, his poor sportsmanship would have been known on Mars by the time the media got done savaging the school. I'm not surprised Wyoming's Joe Glenn flipped him off after the onside kick; I'm more surprised Joe Glenn didn't slug him at midfield after the game. He had it coming.

No, BYU has done very well with Bronco Mendenhall. He's solidly aligned with the BoT outlook and he is a spectacularly good coach for the type of young man we want representing our school. I agree that he would probably not be as successful anywhere else but I also doubt that he would ever go anywhere else. I think BYU is the last stop for him...and that is good for both BYU and Bronco.
