My (late) takeaways from the Uconn game:
Offensively:
1 – Taysom Hill’s improved passing/decision making. The ball was where it needed to be on most throws. He threw the ball away a few times which is much better than trying to force something. 74% passing is awesome, and hopefully he can stay above 65%

2 – The improved OL. Yes it was UCONN and they didn't bring a lot of pressure, but last year we had trouble even with a 3-man rush. Also, NO FALSE STARTS! I thought Lapuaho, Wesley, and Koroma were very impressive. Stringham needs to avoid penalties, but I was pleased with the OL play. Also, no bad snaps. I think this is reason #1 that Koroma is starting.

3 – The RBs catching passes out of the backfield. This only happens because of the improvement with the OL. Algie Brown was really impressive out of the backfield (but he’s gotta hold onto the ball). This alone will improve Hill's passing and lower his rushing attempts.

4 – The WR’s and TE’s were great. There were a few pleasant surprises with Houk, Jeurgens, and even Pearson. Jordan Leslie’s blocking was great. We need to reward him and throw him a few more balls. Only one dropped ball that I can remember.

Defensively:
5 – The secondary was pretty impressive. The CB’s were right on top of receivers as soon as they caught the ball. Davis’ speed is amazing. He was the most pleasant surprise to me. The deep ball they got on him he had great position but the WR made a great play. With two of our best guys out (JJ and RD) this speaks volumes of the depth in the secondary.

6 – Our run defense was better than it looked. While watching, it seemed like our run D was a little soft, but it is a dang good showing when a team only gives up 71 rushing yards. Getting MJ back to stuff the middle will help against Texas.

7 – We forced (almost 3) 2 TOs - We got two TOs in the first quarter and none the rest of the game (there was the INT that was negated due to the penalty). We need to force a couple more TOs at Texas.

I am more concerned about the Kickoffs than I am about field goals. The kicker missed by about 4 feet on his first ever D1 FG attempt. I think we will be OK in field goals but we need a guy that can kick it to the endzone on kickoffs.
