My bet to confuse the Texas O -- more 2 DL + 5 LB's
Looking over the Cougar roster, I'm struck at how many big LB's
we have who are athletic, whereas the DL doesn't seem to be
as strong as last year and the CB's are stronger.

When Texas loses their 3 yr starter at center to a broken ankle, and
the most experienced remaining OL started only 12 games,
that sounds like a lot of confusion waiting to happen.

I doubt their inexperienced OL, or their new QB, has seen too many
2-5 front 7's.

If we do go with only 2 DL on a lot of the plays where
the each of those two sells out and tries to occupy
2 of their OL, the 5 LB's could mix up who rushes
and where they rush on a given play.

I also wonder if a 2-5 would allow us to put more
pressure on the new QB than in our 3-4, which when
Bronson plays up on the line looks like and probably
is blocked as a 4-3.

Since Texas has 2 excellent RB's, it'd be nice to
stop them when they hit the hole. If their OL
is uncertain about which LB to block because of
various stunts, in the confusion some of the time
the stud RB's might end up running into their own
OL briefly, which would make him an easier target
for the nearest LB's.

Bronco said the loss of Texas' experienced center
was a bigger deal than loss of their QB.

If we throw a mix of D sets at them that they
don't normally see -- sets that leverage how
big and athletic and deep we are at LB, that
sounds like more 2-5 than we usually play.

The nice thing about starting with a 3-4 and
then changing at times to a 2-5 is that our coaches
in the first Q can assess which set stops the Texas
offense better, and then dial up a bit more of what
works best as the game progresses.

Since the LB two-deep has been so competitive
in Fall camp, we have guys who can play -- in
addition to the best group of talented freshman
LB's in a long time.
