That general argument was used by the Nazis and other anti-Semites of the era,
including some in the US: that many prominent Socialists and Communists and Bolsheviks were Jews, and therefore being anti-Communist or anti-Socialist meant you needed to be anti-Jewish as well.

Even after WWII, some of this sentiment remained in the West, fueled by Israel's leftish tendencies and such incidents as the capture & conviction of the Rosenbergs in the US for spying on behalf of the Soviet Union.
