The formula to beat UVA is incredibly simple, but no easy task.
Give up no free points on ST or turnovers (defensive scores or short fields). UVA will NOT be able to get any TD's from sustained drives, unless we are up by a lot and playing backups or vanilla defense.

Consider this... our 3 opponents' drives have ended in the following ways:

Ending in turnover/downs: 10/40, 25%
Ending in punt: 18/40, 45%
Ending in end of half/game: 2/40, 5%
Ending in FG attempt: 4/40, 10%
Ending in TD: 5/40, 12.5%
Ending in Safety: 1/40, 2.5%
Points scored off turnovers: 22/42, 52%
Points scored off sustained drives: 20/42, 48%
Directly scored defense/ST points: 0/42, 0%

Conversely, here's a summary of our offense drives/points scored:

Ending in turnover/downs: 8/41, 20%
Ending in punt: 10/41, 24%
Ending in end of half/game: 4/41, 10%
Ending in FG attempt: 4/41, 10%
Ending in TD: 14/41, 34%
Points scored off turnovers: 31/109, 28%
Points scored off sustained drives: 76/109, 70%
Directly scored defense/ST points: 2/109, 2%

Here's what UVA's opponents have done offensively vs. UVA. I didn't include their game vs. Richmond (FCS):

Ending in turnover/downs: 7/29, 24%
Ending in punt: 15/29, 52%
Ending in end of half/game: 3/29, 10%
Ending in FG attempt: 1/29, 3%
Ending in TD: 3/29, 10%
Ending in Safety: 0/29, 0%
Points scored off turnovers: 21/49, 43%
Points scored sustained drives: 28/49, 57%
Directly scored Defense/ST points: 21/49, 43%

Conversely, here's a summary of the UVA offense's drives minus their game vs. FCS Richmond:

Ending in turnover/downs: 7/30, 23%
Ending in punt: 13/30, 43%
Ending in end of half/game: 4/30, 13%
Ending in FG attempt: 5/30, 17%
Ending in TD: 4/30, 13%
Points scored from turnovers: 33/43, 77%
Points scored from sustained drives: 10/43, 23%

Key takeaways... we don't give up many points from sustained drives (48% of points given up or 6.67 PPG). Additionally, UVA doesn't score many points from sustained drives (23% of points scored, or 5 PPG). The only way that UVA scores in double digits in this game is if we give up points off or directly from turnovers or from ST. Don't turn the ball over, we win. That simple. However, given how athletic and dominant their front 7 is, that's not an easy task. They'll be aggressive and will try and get after Taysom. Our O-line has it's work cut out for them. Taysom needs to make good decisions. Not a bad thing at all to punt vs. UVA.
