If d coordinators knew holding wouldn't be auto first down, you would see intention holding by the D line on blitz calls as your only risk is 5 yards and it's tough to call. They already have the d line hold on blitzes, just would be able to be less obvious about it as no big deal 3rd and 20 if you get caught and face 3rd and 15 the next play.
