On the Dodge Ram you could turn the ignition on and off 3 times really quick and
the code would pop up on the odometer. Then a quick check on the internet.
I once found my gas cap was loose by doing this. I'm sure that would have cost me a couple hundred bucks to have it diagnosed by a mechanic.
