BYU needs to take some action on this issue
This should be a long term fiscal decision by BYU. In the 1960's when I attended BYU about 70% of the students were from Utah or the neighboring states. The second largest group was from California. Today about 65% of the students are from out of Utah. Most of them will return to where they grew up. This creates a problem for BYU down the road. Your season ticket holders generally come from fans that live within driving distance of the stadium or arena. Utah Valley students are more prone to end up living in Utah and BYU needs to make them BYU fans so that attendance in the future does not decrease.

The change in academic requirements to enter BYU has been a boon to the University of Utah. Many students that would have attended BYU no longer get admitted and so those that live in Utah end up going to state schools, particularly Utah. They are bitter towards BYU and rather than admitting that it was their fault they did not get in they become anti-BYU and many rabid Utah fans. UVU offers an avenue for BYU to bring a strong fan base for the long term. They need to take advantage of this opportunity. I am not sure what kind of ratio on these tickets should be adopted but something should be done.
