My experience is that the supplemental life insurance policies offered through
work are usually pretty good. At my last job, I bought supplemental life insurance equal to 5x my salary (plus the 1x that was given as a standard benefit) and it only cost around $15/month.
When I got my new job, they didn't offer supplemental life insurance, so I had to go buy a term policy and it's lots more than $15/month.
