There's nothing in that piece that indicates Microsoft will make sweeping
changes to its next OS. Sure, they may bring back the old start menu, but I can't imagine them abandoning the app model introduced in Windows 8. It's still a really new platform and for some of us (I'm a programmer) the Windows 8 app model is pretty cool because it embraces modern Service Oriented Architecture and allows you to build apps using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. You don't have to learn C or whatever language IOS requires for their apps. This means you could build a really simple app that pulls Facebook data (or data from any other site with a public API) in a matter of an hour or so.

Another reason why I don't see them making sweeping changes is the Surface. I haven't seen the numbers on sales, but I've read glowing after glowing review of the Surface Pro 3. Some have even said that the OS is the best tablet operating system on the market. I get that it's tough to cut into Apples dominance of the consumer market. It's hard to un-brainwash the Apple fan boys, but why abandon something that is so good?
