What happened to the bomb squad?
All off-season we talked and heard about the emergence of the deep ball. So far this year that aspect has been underwhelming and depressing. Against Houston, I believe that our lack of the deep pass allowed the red cougars back into the game, and they kept scooting up to attack our run and intermediate passing game. This week against UVA, I believe that one of the biggest keys to the game is our passing game. UVA held Taysom to 13 completions on 40 attempts last year, and he only amassed 175 yards. Their front seven is very aggressive and fast, faster than Houston. If we cannot get our passing game going, teams are going to continue to force Taysom and our running backs to beat them by stacking 8 guys in the box. I noticed in a post game interview with Jordan Leslie, after the Houston game, that he seemed frustrated. I am not sure if it was because of the lack of touches in the second half, after a very productive first half, yet as a receiver I would not blame him if this was the reason. Taysom has got to connect with his receivers down field. It will force the DB's and LB's to back up and play honest. That will open up the running lanes for Taysom and Jamaal.

One of the biggest reasons I am worried this week is because of Virginia's defense. If Taysom is not able to complete early passes he will likely run a lot, and eventually it will lead to injuries / turnovers.

Throw the ball down field!
